Some Instagram users report Notes section disappeared, but there's a solution

Scrolling through Reddit this morning, I couldn’t help but notice a rising wave of confusion among Instagram users. The topic? The little ‘Notes’ feature seems to have pulled a vanishing act for some people. You know the one – those short, 60-character text or music updates that sit like little thought bubbles above your direct messages list. They’re a quirky way to share a quick mood, a song you’re listening to, or just a random emoji.

Well, for a chunk of users, that entire section is reportedly gone. Opening the app and heading to the DMs, they’re finding the familiar row of profile pictures with notes above them has simply disappeared. This led to the usual speculation online. Did Instagram quietly remove the feature? Is it just a bug?

Reports popped up across Reddit and X. On Reddit, user menif_gg posted, “My note section doesn’t appear… Any clue?”. This was quickly followed by comments like “Same here dude!” from Cxvyx and “Just happened to me too wtf” from Novel_Bandicoot7154. One user, spooperdooper_ on Reddit, jokingly said, “How am I supposed to STALK my followers :((“.

Over on X, similar sentiments were shared, with users asking if Instagram got rid of Notes and expressing frustration.

Naturally, I checked my own Instagram account, but my Notes section was still there on iOS and Android. This suggests it’s likely not a universal change rolled out by Instagram, but probably more of a glitch affecting certain accounts or app versions.

Now for the good news. While Instagram hasn’t officially commented yet (as far as I can see), users have already crowdsourced a potential fix. Several people across different threads reported that the classic tech support move – uninstalling the Instagram app entirely and then reinstalling it from the app store – seems to do the trick.

User Lazer25840643 on X confirmed, “I had this problem I uninstalled and reinstalled instagram and it works again.” While one user on Reddit mentioned the fix was only temporary before Notes vanished again, for many others, this simple reinstall seems to be bringing the feature back.

So, if you’re one of the unlucky users whose Notes have gone AWOL, don’t panic just yet. It seems more like a temporary bug than a permanent removal. Give the uninstall/reinstall method a try. It might just bring those little chat bubbles back to the top of your inbox. Hopefully, a more permanent fix from Instagram isn’t too far behind.
