After following the whole Meta mass ban wave saga for weeks, I’ve noticed something interesting. Multiple Reddit threads are lighting up with users celebrating the return of their Instagram accounts. So I can’t help but wonder if Meta is finally taking action to fix the mess they created.

I found myself scrolling through subreddits where affected users gather, and the pattern is unmistakable. Users who were banned around late June are suddenly getting their accounts back, often without warning. One user posted excitedly about receiving an unexpected email saying Meta had made a mistake. Another shared a screenshot showing their account was restored after being disabled for just over a week.

The whole situation started roughly a month ago when a lot of Instagram users suddenly noticed their accounts were suspended. What began as isolated reports quickly snowballed into what many are calling a mass ban wave, primarily targeting users with false Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) violations.

What strikes me most is how these restorations are happening. I found multiple threads where people were discussing getting their accounts back without any additional appeals or actions on their part. Many had already received rejection letters for their appeals, only to wake up to find their accounts mysteriously restored.

The OP in the screenshot added:

They banned me on June 23, I only made an appeal on Facebook, they responded to me the minute it was a permanent ban. So I better not do anything on Instagram, like I said I didn’t talk to anyone or do anything, I was just waiting and a moment ago I got a notification and magically my Instagram came back as if nothing had happened.

But there’s a concerning pattern emerging from these recovery stories. Several users report that while their Instagram accounts are back, they’re facing new technical issues. Some can’t log in through mobile apps and have to use desktop browsers. Others find their Facebook accounts still disabled despite Instagram being restored. Even more troubling, I noticed some comments where users warn that restored accounts might get banned again quickly.

From what I’ve gathered across various discussion threads — like this — accounts banned around June 20 or later seem to be getting priority attention. Users who were affected earlier in June are still waiting, which feels particularly unfair given they’ve been locked out the longest. Interestingly, this is around the same time a fresh wave of users complained about getting their Instagram accounts locked following a password reset.

A few days ago I wrote about how Meta still refuses to own up to the Instagram and Facebook mass ban wave. The company’s silence during this crisis has been deafening, making these sudden restorations feel almost random rather than systematic. The human cost of this ban wave cannot be understated. The ban wave has wrecked many personal memories and some businesses lost out on a lot of money. Artists with decades of work and tens of thousands of followers remain locked out while newer accounts get restored first.

What’s particularly frustrating is seeing how Instagram and Facebook users united against mass account bans through petitions and legal action, yet the restoration process feels arbitrary and incomplete.

The current wave of restorations feels different. These aren’t just help page updates but actual account access being returned. However, the inconsistency in which accounts are being restored first, and the technical issues plaguing restored accounts, suggests Meta’s fix isn’t comprehensive. Facebook accounts remain largely untouched by these restoration efforts.

What concerns me most is the lack of communication from Meta throughout this process. Users are discovering their restored accounts through surprise notifications rather than clear communication about the company’s remediation efforts. This approach leaves thousands of affected users in limbo, unsure if their accounts will ever be restored.

As I continue monitoring these developments, the pattern suggests Meta may be working backwards through their ban list, starting with the most recent cases. If this trend continues, users affected earlier in the ban wave should theoretically see their accounts restored soon. However, given Meta’s track record during this crisis, nothing feels certain. That said, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the developments and will post an update if there’s something to share.

In the meantime, feel free to drop a comment below to let me know if your Instagram account has been restored or not.

My account ikibun.library has been disabled since 3/2/2025 due to a likely CSE misjudgment of "Nakayoshi" and "Kokoro no Mado" newsletters. Despite 19+ emails and an 8/27 appeal, no restoration yet, even with this update. I hope Meta fixes Japan cases soon. Thanks! #InstagramSuspended

Thank you for following all this up ! Awareness of this and the wide reaching impacts to so many is so important. It is madness that in this day and age with the focus on mental health that one of the largest and most successful company in the world - who is all about the importance of connection allows this to happen depsite all their resources and tech 🤯I am sadly not restored for fb or insta or all related meta products. I am an april suspension… and appealed, plus followed up often for the last 10 weeks…. Please keep this issue alive the impacts are wide reaching… and the fact there is no recourse and you cant even safely start over…lifetime bans and isolation for the innocent :-(

Some of the accounts that are restored i believe might just be fake accounts by meta workers so that we stop annoying them.

Hello, my Facebook and Instagram accounts have been disabled since June 1. Submitted an appeal no response. I have yet to hear back from anyone. I echo what you said about the lack of communication it is completely frustrating.

I was banned on June 7th, around 4:30 AM. I was facetimimg my friend, screensharing a YouTube video. I was falsely banned for CSE like everyone else. I have not been unbanned yet. I created a burner account on June 8th and it is still active as of July 2nd.

It seems they might be testing restoring accounts but it's strange how there aren't any posts today about any recoveries. It might be a silencing tactic from them to slow down the news and progress of the movement. Strangest part is there isn't any Facebook accounts that was restored yesterday.
