Some Instagram users are reporting that dates and times on posts have mysteriously vanished.
Reports began surfacing soon after the Instagram app picked up an update early this week, with users on both Android and iOS noticing the missing timestamps. One user lamented the sudden disappearance of dates at the bottom of posts, calling it “maddening.” Others echoed the sentiment, suggesting it might be an attempt to obscure the age of content on the Discover page, where older, already popular posts often reign supreme. Some users, now on their third account and ready to ditch Instagram altogether, are left wondering if this is a ploy to enhance the platform’s mysterious algorithm.
Interestingly, this change coincides with another recent tweak — the layout of the “Posts” tab shifting from a square to a rectangular grid, mirroring the Reels tab. Could these adjustments have arrived hand in hand? It’s still unclear whether Instagram’s removal of dates is a deliberate move or just a pesky glitch. The fact that not everyone, including yours truly, isn’t affected further adds to the mystery.
Instagram is playing it cool and hasn’t commented on the issue yet. While some speculate that it’s a deliberate change, much like YouTube’s controversial handling of the dislike button, the lack of communication suggests this might be a temporary hiccup in the UI.
For many, the removal of dates from posts feels like a step backward. One user expressed disbelief, saying, “What’s the point of not seeing dates? I don’t get it.” Another, frustrated by the constant changes, deactivated their account, hoping for a more stable alternative to emerge.
Without official word from Instagram, users are left to their own devices, speculating and troubleshooting in forums and social media threads. Some hope it’s just a glitch that will soon be rectified, while others are bracing for the possibility that this change might be here to stay.
So, if you’re one of the unlucky few missing those precious dates and times on your posts, you’re not alone. Keep an eye out for updates and maybe, just maybe, Instagram will shed some light on this perplexing situation. Until then, happy scrolling and may your feed be ever in your favor – dates or no dates!

In My Account The Timestamps Starts Showing Since Yesterday!
Silvia23-08-2024
In my account, timestamps disappeared 2 or 3 weeks ago. Today they've come back! I did nothing, except signalling the problem to Instagram assistance a couple of times (but I'm not sure this is the reason why they're back).

Now when my favorite food trucks post that they'll be at a location "today" I have no idea when today is!! This is trash.

on Android, I reverted to version 340.0.0.1.109 by downloading the apk directly and the timestamp got back.
Suz21-08-2024
Thanks Steph! Your fix worked!
Suz21-08-2024
Ugh. Thank you for this information. I am one of the unlucky. It stinks!
Erika20-08-2024
Hello Steph! My Account is public and verified and I have no time stamps, too. 😢 I asked the Meta Support...Mr. "Maximilian " was very frendly--- until he knew my problem. No answer anymore!
Steph19-08-2024
Not sure if this will work for everyone but it worked for me!!! I saw a comment that mentioned this happening to people who have their accounts on private, which I did. I made my account public, then uninstalled and reinstalled the app and now my dates/times are back! Hopefully it stays that way 😅

I've lost the Insta time stamps on laptop, phone and tablet and it is beyond annoying. They waste time and programming power on minor layout changes but make the app worse and worse. As if making all notifications into direct messages hadn't been bad enough.

Please try and fix it The problem of showing time and date on a post
Fuckers 17-08-2024
I'm so sick and tired of Instagram. I'm done.

Another annoying and useless feature that downgrade the app one more times. They’re over and heading for collision I’m done with this app
Marceau 15-08-2024
Instagram is just getting worse every day I’m so done with this stupid ass app. They keep adding useless features that only downgrade the app and make it barely enjoyable. They’re heading for collision

I have same account on 2 different cellphones, no issue in iOS but no timestamp in Android eventhough after I updated the app today. Engineers doing Android OS update screw up. LOL!
Jess15-08-2024
Just had another update for Instagram, didn’t fix the problem!!! Arghhhh it’s so frustrating!!
Rana14-08-2024
This is 👎👎👎👎👎👎
Eduardo14-08-2024
Annoying update. I can't understand why.
Wing14-08-2024
Same as Mark! Bummer!!!
Holly12-08-2024
My account hasn’t yet updated to the notes in the dms yet has got rid of the post dates yet my second account has notes and still has post dates on the same app … I’m always stalking my friends and not seeing dates is so frustrating 😭
Srushh12-08-2024
It was an unnecessary update.... Then how will we get to know which post nee or which is old
Lilly12-08-2024
This is actually happening to private accounts
Mark11-08-2024
It's definitely per account. I have two IG accounts, on the same phone and same app installation, one account has timestamps and one doesn't.
Poland 11-08-2024
I think mine is worse,I can’t see the time stamp on my post and also the view all option on the comment section. All I see is the post and the caption that’s it , and to see the comment I have to click on the caption. On instagram web it’s visible but on my device it’s not… I’ve got two account and my main has this specific problem
Cam11-08-2024
I’m having this issue and it’s frustrating! As mentioned by another here, it’s account related. I’ve switched to my other account and the dates are still visible. I’ve uninstalled and installed the app a couple of times and the issue persists.

It could be basic A/B test to see how the users react to it since it's not for all users. Let's see what they do with the analytics of it. It's pretty basic to test out such things.
Nick10-08-2024
All they want is more control over us, hiding the truth away just like the dislike button on YouTube. Enough BS!
Andrew10-08-2024
Agreed this is annoying AF but there's still a way to see when something was posted (which is a bit tedious). Select the three dot menu icon at the top right of the post and then select the QR code option, it'll show the post date there.
Elissa 10-08-2024
It’s so annoying! I’ve lost the dates from my account too. It’s strangely unsettling to not be able to tell whether the post I’m seeing is old or recent. They’d better fix this!
Mavic 10-08-2024
Scammers will now copy ur post and u can’t event verify which is real and which is fake when timestamp is removed. I can see Meta end card is not far away
Jenny09-08-2024
It’s so annoying!!! I’ve deleted and redownloaded the app and they reappear for a short while then go again!
John09-08-2024
I noticed that change too, since two or three days, and it seems that it's account-related since I am using two different accounts with the same app and only one of those has the "issue". From Instagram web the dates are visible, though.
