Foldables have a crease problem. You can pretend it’s not there, but every time the light catches that permanent line down the middle of your screen, you’re reminded that folding glass still comes with a visible trade-off.
That’s why the most stubborn rumor about Apple’s foldable iPhone has always centered on one thing: no crease. Not “less visible,” not “you’ll get used to it,” but actually gone. We covered this back in March 2025 when multiple reports suggested Apple and Samsung Display were working together on a crease-free panel, because Apple apparently wasn’t interested in launching a foldable that looked like every other one on the market.
Now, thanks to CES 2026, that rumor just got its most convincing piece of evidence yet. Samsung Display showed up at the show with a foldable OLED panel that has no visible crease, and the timing feels almost too convenient to ignore. Popular tipster Ice Universe shared a side-by-side comparison image for reference:
If you didn’t guess already, the new display tech is on the left.
The Verge straight-up floated the question everyone’s thinking: is this the creaseless display destined for a folding iPhone? Samsung Display has been Apple’s go-to supplier for OLED screens for years, so seeing them debut crease-free tech right when iPhone Fold chatter is heating up isn’t exactly subtle.
As reported by SamMobile, the company claims the crease-free version offers “seamless text across the fold,” which sounds like the kind of polish Apple would actually sign off on.
Looking at the handful of images floating online, the demo panel appears completely flat when unfolded, with no visible line interrupting the display. That’s a big jump from the current generation of foldables, where you can still see and feel the crease even if manufacturers swear it’s “barely noticeable.”
This also explains why Apple has seemingly dragged its feet on foldables while Samsung, Motorola, and Google have been shipping devices for years. As recently as December, reports suggested Apple was still working through technical challenges with its crease-free ambitions. If Samsung Display is comfortable enough to publicly demo a solution now, it means the tech Apple’s been waiting for might finally be ready to ship.
Does this confirm an iPhone Fold launch date or specs? No. But it does turn the “Apple wants a creaseless foldable” rumor from wishful thinking into something that looks a lot more real now that the actual display tech has surfaced in public.
