Locked out of TikTok and can’t log back in? You’re not alone

Suddenly found yourself staring at the TikTok login screen, unable to get back into your account? You’re definitely not the only one experiencing this headache today. A wave of users across social media platforms like Reddit and X are reporting being unexpectedly logged out of their TikTok accounts and finding themselves completely locked out, seemingly without warning or reason.

From the many reports I’ve seen, one moment users are scrolling through their For You page or checking drafts, the next they’re faced with a login prompt that refuses to cooperate. Attempts to log back in, even using correct passwords or newer methods like passkeys, often result in vague error messages. 

Reddit user BoredBlaby shared their experience, stating, “Even when using my passkey, I just get the error Something went wrong. Try again later.” Others are seeing stark messages directly stating their account is locked, leaving them confused about potential violations they never committed.

The sheer number of people reporting the same problem around the same time suggests this isn’t just a case of forgotten passwords or isolated user errors. On Reddit, user updog123456789 commented, “This is happening to me right now. TT telling me my account is locked.”

Over on X, the sentiment was mirrored. User @HeartthrobPB expressed shock: “Well that’s a b**ch. I was going through some drafts in my TikTok account, and I got logged out and informed the account is locked. WTF?!” This sudden, shared experience points towards a potential glitch or wider technical issue within TikTok’s systems, affecting users globally.

For some, the situation is even more complicated, sparking fears their accounts may have been compromised, especially given past reports of hacking incidents. Trying to resolve these login issues often leads to further frustration. User @ariscupcakexx noted a common roadblock, “me too, when i go to reset my password it tells me im locked”.

Getting help through official channels also appears challenging, with several users mentioning difficulties reaching or getting effective responses from TikTok support, adding to the anxiety of losing access to potentially years of content and connections.

As of now, the exact cause behind this widespread lockout remains unclear, and there hasn’t been widespread official communication from TikTok addressing the issue. But given the fact that this is affecting what seems to be thousands of users, I suspect that most, if not all, users should be able to get back into their accounts pretty soon.
