MEGA users have been running into frustrating problems with MEGASync lately, and the company says it’s aware of what’s going on. When people try to download files through their browsers, the desktop app isn’t kicking in like it should. Instead, downloads are getting stuck or forcing users to grab files directly through the browser, which defeats the whole point of having the sync app installed in the first place.
The complaints started popping up across Reddit over the past week. One user noted that MEGASync downloads weren’t working properly, while another reported that MEGASync wasn’t functioning on Firefox.
Other threads showed similar patterns, with people saying MEGA wasn’t using the app to download things even though everything appeared to be set up correctly.
The issue seems particularly weird because the desktop app shows up as running, but the browser just doesn’t recognize it. Some users found themselves in a loop where MEGA Sync was already running but the browser kept requesting they download it again. There were also reports of syncing problems that left files sitting in limbo.
In a recent response on the MEGA subreddit, official support confirmed that developers know about the handoff failures and are working to get things sorted out. “Our developers are aware of the issue and working to resolve it as quickly as they can,” a support representative wrote in a comment.
The fix will apparently roll out once it’s ready, though no specific timeline was given.
For now, users dealing with these problems might need to manually trigger downloads through the MEGASync app itself by right-clicking the system tray icon and using the download option there. It’s not ideal, but it’s a workaround until MEGA pushes out a proper fix. The company hasn’t said what exactly caused the handoff mechanism to break, but at least they’re on it.
