Meta’s recent rebranding of the Quest mobile app to the Meta Horizon app has had a few bumps on the way. Since the launch of the v68 update, users have reported a few issues, the latest being an infuriating glitch that prevents access to profiles.

The transition to Meta Horizon hasn’t been smooth sailing. From mixed reviews about the new interface to compatibility hiccups with the Open XR Toolkit, the app’s debut has been anything but flawless. Now, the most recent glitch adds another layer of frustration. Users attempting to access their profiles are met with a cryptic message stating, “This profile can’t be accessed. You may have blocked them, or they may have deactivated their profile.”

The glitch is not picky about its victims, affecting both iOS and Android users. Reports have come in from users with various devices, including the latest iPhones, Samsung Galaxy models, and Google Pixel phones. Some users can see their profiles through search but cannot access them directly, while others find that reinstalling the app offers no respite. This has particularly irked content creators who rely on the app to manage and post their VR content.

Imagine waking up one day to find your profile inaccessible on your phone, but miraculously working on your iPad. This peculiar scenario has been the reality for those affected. For some, uninstalling and reinstalling the app has worked like a charm, while for others, it has been an exercise in futility.

Meta’s support has been active on Reddit, but their responses have been less than satisfying. The suggestions are as predictable as they are generic: uninstall and reinstall the app, log out and log back in, or shake your phone until the “Report a problem” screen appears. These troubleshooting steps feel more like a tech support bingo game than a solution to a pervasive problem.

Despite the growing number of complaints, there has been no official acknowledgment from Meta regarding the glitch. While support teams are engaging with users, their canned responses and standard troubleshooting advice haven’t instilled much confidence.

The hope is that this glitch is a temporary hiccup in the grand scheme of Meta’s rebranding efforts. Algorithms and updates can be tricky beasts, sometimes causing unexpected issues that take time to iron out. However, the lack of a swift resolution or a clear acknowledgment from Meta leaves users in a frustrating limbo.

So, if you find yourself staring at that vexing message blocking your profile access, know that you’re not alone. But in the meantime, continue reporting the issues through the app and directly to Meta’s support. Persistence is key, as more reports could push Meta to prioritize a fix.
