As a researcher who often delves into the world of software bugs and tech issues, I’ve been following the peculiar case where Meta Quest 3 users get a persistent USB-C port warning. The original issue surfaced with the v62 update, prompting a wave of complaints about a phantom debris or water alert that rendered headsets practically unusable. While some hoped v63 would bring a fix, it’s turned into a frustrating twist for many users.

Online forums are buzzing with exasperated users. Some who were blissfully unaware of the issue pre-v63 are now facing the same relentless warning pop-ups. The root cause remains a mystery, though speculation about third-party charging cables being a potential trigger is circulating. The official thread about the problem has a whopping 770+ comments, indicating a wide impact. Here’s how some users describe the problem:

Just got the water debris error within one hour of updating to V63. Didn’t get it once with V62. When are Meta going to fix this nonsense?

Update on this: the new Quest 3 I bought has started having the issue less than 3 days into owning it. I am utterly appalled at the lack of communication or attempt to alleviate the issue from Meta.

I purchased the Quest 3 a few weeks ago to replace my Reverb G2 primarily for sim racing. So far I’ve managed just a couple of laps before this issue popped up and it’s appeared constantly every since. It’s currently unusable for wired pcvr despite this being a selling point for the headset.

What’s especially concerning is the lack of a clear fix or even a timeframe for a proper solution from Meta. While they’ve acknowledged the issue and are working on it, users are left feeling helpless and increasingly disillusioned. Some have resorted to unconventional tactics – keeping their headsets partially charged or rebooting repeatedly – all with varying degrees of success.

Adding salt to the wound, I noticed one user highlighted that previous workarounds that helped fix the issue have stopped working now. Trying different cables or plugging in the cable into the computer and then the headset or vice-versa no longer help. So it seems affected users are now at the mercy of Meta. That said, a few lucky Quest 3 users claim that their units aren’t affected with the phantom water or debris in USB-C port warning glitch with v63.

The most disheartening thing is that this bug has the potential to turn enthusiasts away from Meta’s VR platform. User reports express threats to return their headsets or swear off Meta products altogether. It’s a reminder that unresolved technical glitches can have significant repercussions for a company’s reputation. Here’s what one individual wrote:

Still nothing will happen, meta has a free pass for literally everything…… Guess bricking a headset for 7 weeks without updates is totally ok, I mean imagine that………..
I just hope for some kind of compensation because this is absurd, and they should not pass lightly…….

All we can do at the moment is hope this situation is addressed swiftly by Meta. The Quest 3 is a promising piece of technology, and it’s unfortunate that a seemingly minor bug is overshadowing its potential for so many users. Until then, we wait and hope that a proper patch arrives sooner rather than later. I’ll keep tabs on this and will post an update if I find a working workaround or an official update on the situation. In case you managed to find a workaround, feel free to drop it in the comments below to help others. That’s it from my side!

Hi, is this still an issue? I seem to have this issue, I bought a MQ3 used 3 days ago, still haven't managed to set it up due to this error, tried multiple cables and even unplugged. The headset charges, but I can't get past this warning. The seller is adamant there were no issues with the headset when they had it
