A growing number of Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 owners are reporting a frustrating login loop that’s leaving them unable to access their devices, apps, and even the games they’ve paid for. The issue has sparked a wave of complaints across forums and social media, with users describing a maddening cycle of being bounced between Meta and Facebook logins — only to end up right back where they started.

Imagine this: You power on your Meta Quest headset, ready to dive into your favorite VR game, only to be greeted by a message telling you to log in. No big deal, right? Wrong. You try logging in with your Meta account, but the system insists you need to use Facebook. So, you switch over to Facebook, only to be told you need to log in with your Meta account. Round and round you go, like a virtual reality version of Groundhog Day.

For many users, this loop is more than just an inconvenience. Some report being forced to create entirely new accounts, only to find that their old accounts—and the games and apps tied to them—are now inaccessible. Others are being prompted to link Facebook accounts they never wanted to use in the first place. And for a few unlucky souls, the system is even pulling up old, defunct email addresses they haven’t used in years, leaving them with no way to recover their accounts.

One parent shared their frustration after setting up Quest headsets for their kids, only to have the devices become unusable within 24 hours. “They saved up for these, and now they’re just expensive paperweights,” they lamented. Another user expressed their devastation at potentially losing hundreds of dollars’ worth of games they’d purchased.

What’s particularly baffling is that the issue doesn’t seem to affect everyone. Some users report that creating new accounts works just fine, suggesting that Meta’s authentication servers aren’t completely down. Instead, it appears that certain accounts — or parts of them—have gone missing in action. Whether this is due to a server glitch, a botched update, or some other behind-the-scenes snafu remains unclear.

Adding to the confusion, some users are being asked to enter an 8-digit device code to pair their headsets, only to be told the code is invalid. Others are being forced to jump through hoops to “move” their VR data to a new account, only to hit a wall when the system refuses to recognize their credentials. It’s a mess, and users are understandably fed up.

Meta’s response: “We’re working on it”

So, what’s Meta doing about all this? According to a statement from Meta Quest Support, the company is aware of the issue and is “working quickly” to resolve it. While that’s reassuring to hear, the lack of a concrete timeline or detailed explanation has left many users feeling anxious — and more than a little skeptical.

“Thanks for your understanding and patience,” the statement reads. But for users who’ve been locked out of their accounts for hours, patience is wearing thin. Some are already eyeing alternatives, with one frustrated parent declaring, “I’m returning this trash and getting an Apple product by the weekend.”

Here’s hoping Meta gets this sorted out soon.
