A growing number of Motorola Edge 40 Neo users are facing a frustrating issue with their newly purchased devices. Reports detail the phone’s power and volume buttons becoming loose and eventually detaching altogether. This problem appears unusually widespread, occurring even with careful handling and within short periods of ownership. From what I managed to gather, it seems reports about the defect started popping up just a couple of months after the launch.

Motorola Edge 40 Neo users complain about buttons coming off

On various social media platforms and the official Motorola forums, affected users are sharing (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) their experiences. Check out what some affected users have to say:

Here’s a video showing the power button detached and the volume buttons coming off:

Frustration seems to stem not only from the hardware fault but also from limited solutions offered by Motorola. Some service centers are reportedly resorting to temporary fixes like re-sticking the buttons with adhesive, raising concerns about the long-term reliability of such repairs.

The root cause of the problem remains unclear. Speculation ranges from manufacturing defects to design flaws within the button assembly itself. Motorola has acknowledged the issue but an official statement addressing the cause and a permanent solution is still awaited. Here’s what a Motorola employee said in response to one complaint on Reddit:

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We understand the frustration and concern you must feel regarding the issue with your Edge 40 Neo’s volume button.

Regarding your concern, we acknowledge that you’ve encountered a hardware problem with the volume button despite minimal pressure applied during cleaning. We are aware of similar reports from other users, and we’re actively investigating this matter to address any underlying issues.

What should you do?

If you own a Motorola Edge 40 Neo and encounter the power or volume buttons coming off, it’s crucial to contact Motorola support immediately. Document the issue with photos or videos as evidence. Insist on a proper replacement or repair under warranty. Refrain from attempting DIY fixes as this could potentially void your warranty rights.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo button issue highlights the importance of reporting manufacturing defects promptly. User voices can help expedite solutions and ensure better quality control for future products. I’ll be keeping a close eye for any developments on this matter and will post an update here. That’s it from my side!
