Update 06/12/24: As promised, Motorola has started rolling out Android 15 update to the likes of Motorola Edge 50 Fusion and Edge 50 Ultra devices. The update weighs in at about 2GB and brings November 2024 security patch.

When it comes to Android updates, Motorola has always been the unpredictable cousin at the party — sometimes a life of the party, other times showing up fashionably late. But it seems the tide is turning for Moto fans, as fresh details hint at a December arrival for the Android 15 stable update on select Motorola Edge devices.
Back in October, eagle-eyed folks at YTechB (via 9to5Google) unearthed a quiet update on Motorola’s support pages. Without much fanfare, the company listed a handful of devices slated to receive Android 15, including the Razr lineup (2023 onward), ThinkPhone, and a generous helping of Edge and Moto G series devices. At the time, it was a promising teaser, albeit lacking a release timeline. Then came whispers of beta builds rolling out to the Motorola Edge 50 series, surprising many — Motorola was suddenly ahead of some industry heavyweights, including Samsung, in the Android 15 race.

Fast forward to November, and Motorola expanded its list of lucky devices. A fresh batch of Razr, Edge, Moto G, and ThinkPhone models — 30 in total — were confirmed for the Android 15 update. Notable additions included the Razr 50s, Edge 40, and the Edge 40 Neo, among others. Yet, Motorola’s trademark vagueness persisted. No release dates. No beta timelines. Nada.
Enter Siddharth, a disgruntled Edge 40 owner who voiced his frustrations on Motorola’s community forum. His plea for clarity was met with a refreshingly candid (though slightly vague) response from Tom, a Motorola forum admin.
Hello,
We understand how important OS updates are to our users, and we’re committed to delivering the latest technology and best experience on Motorola devices. While the Android 15 Beta for your model hasn’t started yet, testing is underway on select Motorola Edge devices. We anticipate the official Android 15 rollout to begin on some devices by the end of the year.
That said, we’re unable to provide specific timelines for when the Beta will start or when it will be fully released for your model. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Best regards,
Tom
Here’s the gist of Tom’s update:
- Beta testing is already underway for select Edge devices.
- Stable Android 15 updates should start rolling out by the end of December.
- No specific dates for the Moto Edge 40 or its Beta phase yet, but patience, dear users, is a virtue.
So, what does this mean for you, Motorola loyalists? If you own one of the newer Edge devices — particularly in the Edge 50 series — you’re likely at the front of the line for the Android 15 stable update this month. Moto Edge 40 owners may have to wait a tad longer, but hey, at least there’s movement in the right direction.
Motorola’s handling of Android updates might not be flawless, but the company seems determined to catch up. Heck, Motorola now offers 5 Android OS updates and 6 years of security patches for select devices. With Android 15 now firmly in sight for some devices, Moto users can look forward to the latest features and enhancements before ringing in the new year.
Now, Motorola, if you’re listening, here’s hoping 2025 will bring us updates without the suspense — because while we enjoy the drama, timely updates are the real MVPs.
