Motorola users have been left frustrated after the much-anticipated lock screen customization feature in Android 14 failed to materialize as expected. Despite the update promising a fresh, personalized lock screen experience, multiple Moto devices are stuck with the standard, unchangeable interface they had on Android 13.

Android 14 ushered in the ability to personalize your lock screen. This allows you to make small but impactful tweaks, transforming your lock screen from a static image into a reflection of your style and preferences. While initially introduced alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro launch, the lock screen customization magic isn’t limited to just those devices. Any phone eligible for Android 14 update should gain access to this feature, letting you customize your lock screen to your heart’s content. Unfortunately, this isn’t true for Moto devices on Android 14, and here’s Moto’s explanation:

The issue seems to lie in a missing “Save” button. While the customization options appear, users report that their changes simply don’t stick. This leaves them with the same monotonous lock screen they’ve been seeing for months, despite the tantalizing presence of customization settings.

This isn’t the first time lock screen customization has gone awry on Motorola devices after a major Android update. The update to Android 12 took away the ability to change the lock screen clock format, forcing users to find workarounds. Unfortunately, the current Android 14 glitch offers no such escape, leaving Moto users in a state of customization limbo.

Thankfully, Motorola acknowledges the problem and assures users that a fix is on the way in a future update. Forum admins have confirmed that the team is aware of the non-functional “customize lock screen” option and are actively working on a solution.

While the wait for a fix is undoubtedly frustrating, it’s important to note that the lock screen customization feature actually works on the latest Chinese firmware for certain devices, like the Moto Edge 30 Ultra. This suggests that it’s simply a matter of time before the functionality is rolled out globally.

The fact that the issue was present in Android 14 beta and remains unresolved even in the stable version adds a layer of disappointment. With Android 15 beta already making its debut, it’s concerning that Motorola is still grappling with a problem Google addressed a year ago.

Motorola users can take solace in the knowledge that a fix is coming. However, the wait for a truly customizable lock screen experience continues, leaving many yearning for a breath of fresh air on their phone’s most visible canvas.
