If you’re a OneNote fan who loves tossing emails straight into your notebooks with a quick forward, this news might sting a bit. Microsoft has decided to pull the plug on the “Save emails to OneNote” feature, a tool that’s been around for years. It let users send emails to [email protected], where they’d land neatly in a chosen notebook section. Pretty handy, right?

The feature’s retirement was set for March 2025, yes this month. Microsoft says it’s due to low usage. Apparently, not enough people were using it to justify keeping it alive. Some users even complained it was buggy or stopped working altogether in recent years. That might explain why it fell out of favor.

But it’s not all bad news. Microsoft has a replacement ready: the “Send to OneNote” feature in Outlook. It’s simpler and more direct. Just click the Apps icon in an email, pick “Send to OneNote,” and choose where it goes. If your account isn’t linked yet, you’ll need to sign in first. It’s a slicker option for keeping your emails organized.

Reactions from the OneNote community are all over the place. Some folks are bummed out. One Reddit user even said, “I can not live without this tool!” Others aren’t surprised. They’ve noted it was unreliable for a while, with one person mentioning it broke about a year ago.

This isn’t the only thing some users are upset with. Recently, many OneNote users have started seeing pop-ups asking them to “upgrade” to use more OneNote features. You can read more about that here.

As the end of the month creeps closer, anyone hooked on “Save emails to OneNote” will need to switch gears. The “Send to OneNote” option is there to soften the blow. Change can be tough, especially when it’s a tool you’ve relied on. But Microsoft seems focused on trimming the fat and pushing features that pack more punch for users.

What’s your take on this? Did you ever use “Save emails to OneNote”? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
