Android 15 users are no strangers to bugs, as many have reported issues ranging from sluggish Google Discover performance, unexplained battery drains, and even shrinking widgets for those using Nova Launcher. Now, Pixel owners have a fresh gripe — checking for app updates on the Google Play Store has become painfully slow after the update to Android 15.

It’s not just a handful of users noticing this glitch. Several reports from forums like Reddit and social media sites like X highlight a growing chorus of frustrated Pixel users. One user noted that it now takes “twice as long” for the Play Store to check for updates, with others agreeing that the “Check for updates” button requires multiple presses before any updates even show up.

Some Pixel 9 users on the Android 15 QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release) beta are experiencing the same sluggishness. Others note that the issue isn’t exclusive to the Pixel 9 series. Owners of Pixel 8, 7, and even older models like the Pixel 6 and 6a are all in the same boat, seeing noticeably longer update check times compared to previous Android versions.

If you’re hoping for a quick fix, well…not so fast. Some users have attempted clearing the Play Store’s cache and restarting the app, but unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to resolve the issue for everyone. Even a suggestion to update Google Play Services (version 24.42.32, to be specific) seems to have limited success, with only one user feeling that it made the process “go faster.”

The cause of this glitch is still up for debate. Some speculate that Android 15 may be doing more behind-the-scenes magic that’s slowing things down, while others think it’s simply a bug that slipped through the cracks. Either way, this slow check for app updates has quickly become a major annoyance for Pixel users already dealing with a myriad of post-Android 15 frustrations.

And it’s not just the Play Store woes. A user on X voiced their irritation that not only was their Pixel 8 failing to update apps, but apps were also crashing, and their battery was draining faster than usual. With these issues piling up, Android 15’s rollout feels like a bumpy ride for some.

While Google has yet to officially acknowledge or address the slow Play Store issue, Pixel users can only hope that a fix is in the works. Until then, be prepared to tap that “Check for updates” button more than once — and maybe grab a coffee while you wait.
