Pokémon Go players have been experiencing a frustrating glitch that leaves them staring at a blank map instead of catching ’em all. Niantic, the game’s developer, has finally acknowledged the issue and offered some potential fixes for affected trainers.
The bug, which seems to have cropped up after a recent update, has left many players unable to see their avatars, nearby Pokémon, or even basic map features. Some unlucky trainers have reported missing out on special events like Mega Lucario Raid Day due to the glitch. Here’s a screenshot shared by a user on X that highlights the glitch:
Niantic took to social media to address the problem, stating, “We’re currently looking into the Map View issue. In the meantime, if you can access your Trainer Profile, try switching your avatar’s outfit/pose back to default & see if that helps. Stay tuned to our channel for more updates.”
This follows an earlier acknowledgment where they suggested players “reinstall the app & download all assets via Advanced Settings” as a potential fix.
However, many trainers have found these official solutions ineffective. The Pokémon Go community has been hard at work, sharing their own workarounds on platforms like Reddit.
One popular fix involves changing specific clothing items. Reddit user SukottoD reported, “It appears certain outfit pieces are bugged, and trying to select them results in weird issues.” They specifically mentioned problems with the Team Magma outfit.
Another player, bias99, narrowed it down further: “Turns out it was the Professor Willow boots on my avatar.” This sentiment was echoed by several other users who found success after changing their avatar’s footwear.
For those unable to access their avatar settings, more creative solutions have emerged. LeftylikeLionelMessi shared a multi-step process: “I’ve gone back to 0.323.1-G-64… changed my avatar’s shoes to Carbink shoes, updated to the latest version 0.325.0 and the game works again.”
Some players have had luck logging in on devices that haven’t been updated yet, allowing them to change their avatar’s appearance before updating.
It’s worth noting that the glitch seems to affect both Android and iOS users, with varying degrees of success for different workarounds. While Niantic works on a permanent fix, if you’re encountering the bug, then do give the workarounds mentioned above a shot.
