A widespread chat bug is causing frustration among Roblox players today, with most English text being automatically filtered into hashtags. The issue, which seemingly began around an hour ago, is affecting users across the platform’s website, mobile app, and Xbox app.
I found a thread on Reddit with over 67 upvotes and 70+ comments that was posted only 34 minutes ago, indicating that the problem is indeed affecting numerous users. There are also widespread reports from users on 𝕏. Here’s a video that highlights the problem:

Roblox has acknowledged the problem, stating on their status page that they are “currently investigating the issue surrounding text being filtered.” The company has classified it as a “Partial Service Disruption” affecting User, Player, and Creator components.
While the bug is rendering most English communication impossible, players have discovered an unusual workaround. Users report that typing in other languages, particularly Spanish, seems to bypass the filter. Some players have found success by adding Spanish words like “el” or “hola” at the beginning of their messages.
“Just put ‘hola’ at the start of ur sentence,” advised one Reddit user. Another suggested, “You have to type in Spanish! Just put ‘el’ at the start of every sentence.”
This temporary solution, while far from ideal, is allowing some level of communication as players wait for an official fix. However, it’s causing additional confusion for non-Spanish speakers and those using translation tools.
The Roblox community is actively discussing the issue on social media, with some users reporting that “#Robloxdown” is trending on Twitter. As of now, there’s no estimated time for a resolution, leaving millions of players struggling to interact in-game.
We’ll update this story as more information becomes available. In the meantime, it seems Roblox players might need to brush up on their Spanish, shoutout to Duolingo!
