A wave of frustration is sweeping through Samsung Galaxy S22 (and some Galaxy S21) owners as the recent One UI 6.1 update has left some with crippled cellular connectivity. Users across multiple carriers are reporting a drastic decrease in signal strength, frequent dropped calls, and in some cases, a complete loss of mobile data and cellular service, effectively turning their expensive devices into paperweights.

The issue appears to have emerged immediately after installing the update, with users reporting that their previously flawless connections became unreliable or non-existent overnight. This has led to significant disruptions in both personal and professional lives, as users are unable to make or receive calls, send texts, or access mobile data outside of Wi-Fi zones. While many are quick to blame the recent One UI 6.1 update, reports of severe connectivity issues date back to the One UI 6.0 update in November 2023, suggesting a deeper-rooted issue.

The problem seems to be widespread, affecting users across different carriers, including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Mint Mobile. Samsung, however, has yet to acknowledge the issue or offer a solution. Some users have reported being advised by Samsung customer service to either purchase a new phone or send their devices in for repairs, a suggestion that has further fueled their anger and disappointment. For some, the issue has rendered their expensive devices virtually useless outside of Wi-Fi zones, causing significant disruptions in both personal and professional lives.

Desperate for a solution, some users have resorted to various troubleshooting steps, including factory resets, network setting resets, and SIM card replacements, but to no avail. Some have even attempted to downgrade their software to an earlier version using third-party tools like Odin, but this is too drastic for average users. Several users have reported receiving unhelpful advice from Samsung customer service, such as purchasing a new phone or sending their devices in for repairs at a fee, further fueling their frustration and disappointment.

One potential workaround that has been suggested by some users is to replace the SIM card reader/charge port, which can be purchased online and installed with the help of online tutorials. However, this is a technical solution that not everyone may be comfortable with, and it’s not guaranteed to work for everyone.

The lack of official communication from Samsung has left users feeling abandoned and frustrated. Many have expressed their disappointment with the company’s handling of the situation and are considering switching to other brands, like Google Pixel or iPhone, which are known for their timely software updates and customer support.

Until Samsung addresses the network connectivity issue, affected Galaxy S22 users have limited options. They can continue to try the troubleshooting steps that have been suggested online, reach out to their carriers for assistance, or consider sending their devices in for repairs, even though there’s no guarantee that it will solve the problem. Some users have also reported success in filing complaints with consumer protection agencies, hoping that collective action will push Samsung to take responsibility and offer a solution.

The One UI 6.1 update has obviously caused a major inconvenience for a significant number of Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 users. And it’s only fair to expect another software update that addresses these connectivity issues. Hopefully, the July security update brings some much-needed network connectivity improvements for affected users.
