More Galaxy S25 Ultra owners have been speaking up about an odd clicking noise that comes from the camera module whenever they zoom in or out. The chatter started earlier this year when a focusing glitch on the 0.6x ultra-wide lens caught our attention, which was also highlighted by the folks over at PhoneArena who did point out the clicking sound issue too. But now I’m seeing more reports zeroing in on an audible click that many say shouldn’t be happening on a flagship device. These accounts have popped up across Reddit, and they suggest the problem might be more widespread than first thought.

One user on the r/S25Ultra subreddit, going by the name elehsufi, was puzzled when they first noticed the sound. They wrote that the video quality was outstanding but that every time they zoomed in, the lens whirred and clicked so loudly it threatened to ruin their footage. Here’s the footage they shared for reference (turn up the volume to hear the clicking sound in the videos):

Why does my camera lens make this super loud clicking noise when I zoom in? Is that supposed to happen?

Similarly, I also found another fresh post about the issue by user Known-Fortune-2992. They too shared video proof of the clicking sound when zooming in:

And just as I was wrapping up this article, I found yet another post from a few hours ago highlighting the same issue:

Loud clicking sound on video, Seems to be defect camera, is this normal or need Samsung to fix?

Then there’s also this post from u/Dharkos who said, “My S25U randomly starterted clicking and ratteling today when i zoom in and out of the 5x telephoto camera. The Ois it self also seem “Loose” when moving the phone in my hand.”

That post prompted a flurry of replies. Some tried to reassure newcomers that a faint mechanical hum or rattle is normal for cameras with optical image stabilization. But many disagreed. A few said that unlike past Samsung phones, the S25 Ultra sounded distinctly like a faulty motor. One person even shared the experience of taking their two-month-old phone to a Samsung Experience Centre in Toronto, where they were told both the camera module and motherboard needed replacing. The user, Known-Fortune-2992, was frustrated that Samsung would only offer a repair rather than a straight swap.

In another Reddit thread, u/Remarkable-Heat8335 wondered whether a strange noise was normal and whether they should head straight to a service centre. A few respondents said they heard the same click on their S24 Ultra or even older models, and insisted it was nothing to worry about. Yet others disagreed, pointing out that the sound seemed louder than what they were used to, especially when filming.

On a thread on Samsung’s community forums, I found a report from a user who claimed that the sound only started coming after the May update.

Samsung has yet to officially comment on the matter, but whispers in service centers suggest they’re aware of an uptick in click-related complaints. In some regions, technicians have reportedly been told to replace camera modules when customers bring in phones under warranty.

That may help some owners, but it also raises questions about how many handsets might end up in for repair before Samsung issues a more comprehensive response. For now, if you own an S25 Ultra it might be wise to test your camera early and, if you hear an unsettling click, get in touch with customer service before the warranty window closes.

As more people share their anecdotes online, it remains to be seen whether Samsung will initiate a formal repair program or push out an official statement. Until then, we will likely see more reports about clicking sounds and shaky previews from Ultra owners.
