After months of speculation, a Samsung mod in the US community forum has finally hinted that the much-anticipated ‘App Lock’ feature will likely make its grand debut with the One UI 7 update. This has potentially put an end to the guessing game, and Galaxy users can hopefully look forward to a more secure way to lock their apps.
In a recent update from the One UI 7 Beta Team, a Samsung moderator spilled the beans, revealing that ‘App Lock’ will likely be part of the upcoming One UI 7 release. This follows a wave of rumors and leaks, including a sneak peek shared by Tarun Vats on X back in June 2024. Vats’ post showcased a partial screenshot from One UI 7’s Settings app, teasing the ‘App Lock’ option, which was disabled at the time. Now, the mystery is solved, and the feature is set to roll out soon.
What is App Lock?
So, what exactly is ‘App Lock’? Unlike the existing ‘Secure Folder,’ which creates a separate, encrypted space for apps and files, ‘App Lock’ is expected to offer a more straightforward solution. The feature will likely allow users to lock the main version of an app directly, providing an additional layer of security without duplicating the app. This means you won’t have to juggle between two versions of the same app — a hassle that Secure Folder users know all too well.
The introduction of ‘App Lock’ aligns with the growing trend of app-specific security features. Google’s “Private Space” has set the stage, and now Samsung is joining the party. This move not only enhances security but also simplifies the user experience.
Samsung’s existing ‘Secure Folder’ already offers robust security, leveraging the defense-grade Samsung Knox platform. It encrypts all data, allowing users to add a passcode or biometric lock. However, ‘App Lock’ is set to complement this by providing a simpler, more integrated way to secure individual apps.
With One UI 7 expected to launch soon in stable, probably alongside the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung users won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on this exciting new feature. The ‘App Lock’ addition is just one of many enhancements coming with the update, promising a more refined and personalized user experience.
