Samsung has acknowledged various issues that users have been facing after updating their devices to the latest One UI 6.1 software. The company has provided troubleshooting tips to help users resolve these problems. Let’s take a closer look at some of the major issues and Samsung’s recommended solutions.

Always on Display (AOD) and lock screen woes

The One UI 6.1 update has brought significant changes to the AOD and Lock screen functionality, leading to several user complaints. Samsung has addressed these concerns:

Clock styles, colors, and sizes:

With the integration of AOD and Lock screen menus, the clock colors and sizes on the AOD screen may differ from the Lock screen. Users can change the clock color using the Lock screen settings, but clock styles that were not frequently used have been removed from the AOD screen.

Missing options:

Options like screen orientation and double-tapping to change the clock are no longer available on the AOD screen. The AOD screen orientation now depends on the Lock screen’s orientation, which can be set using the Quick settings panel.

Brightness adjustment:

Users can no longer find or adjust brightness settings for the AOD screen, as the brightness is now automatically optimized. However, the Auto show option can be enabled to ensure the AOD screen is always visible.

Fingerprint unlock issues

Samsung has also acknowledged an issue where users may only see the notification panel after unlocking their devices using the fingerprint recognition feature on the Lock screen. The company has assured that a software update will be released to address this problem. In the meantime, users are advised to keep their device’s software updated to the latest version by navigating to Settings > Software update or System updates.

While Samsung’s support guide doesn’t specifically mention anything about the lag that some users are noticing when using the fingerprint sensor, it’s likely that the upcoming update would fix this bug too.

Live Translate bug on Galaxy Z Flip 5

The Live Translate feature, which facilitates real-time translation of phone calls and text messages, may terminate during calls on the Z Flip5. This is due to space constraints on the Cover screen. The feature stops when the device is folded during the translation process. Samsung says users can resume Live Translate by unfolding the device and using it on the main screen.

Circle to Search issues on Galaxy Z Fold 5

There are two problems users might face using Circle to Search on their Z Fold 5. For starters, users may encounter an error message when trying to use Circle to Search on both the Cover screen and main screen of the Z Fold 5. This occurs because the feature cannot continue functioning when opening the device to the main screen. Users are advised to use Circle to Search only on the main screen.

The second issue is that Circle to Search may close apps that are currently running or open on the Z Fold 5’s Cover screen or main screen. This is due to incompatibility with certain apps that remain open when folding or unfolding the device.

For both these issues, Samsung recommends keeping the Google app updated through the Play Store while Google works on a solution.

Setup wizard issues

Some users may encounter difficulty tapping the “Next” button on the Advanced Intelligence screen during the device setup process. This could be due to previously set swipe gestures or the NavStar app. Samsung suggests tapping or pressing the top edge of the Next button to proceed. After setup, users should update the NavStar app to the latest version through the Galaxy Store.

Translation issues with Circle to Search on Tab S9

Translations may not work properly when using Circle to Search on the Tab S9. Users can resolve this by clearing the Google app’s data through Settings > Apps > Google > Storage > Clear data.

Other issues and solutions:

Apart from the above-mentioned widespread issues, Samsung has provided troubleshooting tips for several other problems:

  • Difficulties with signing in to Samsung accounts or resetting passwords during the setup process can be resolved by skipping the account setup and adding the account later through Settings.
  • An empty space appearing below the Samsung Keyboard will be fixed in a future software update.
  • Chat translation not working properly can be resolved by enabling the Android personalization service in the privacy settings and restarting the device.
  • Circle to Search not functioning or responding can be addressed by restarting the device and updating the Google app through the Play Store.
  • Auto Hotspot not working on Galaxy phones or tablets may be due to carrier restrictions or account settings. Users should check their account status, enable mobile data, and disable VPNs if applicable.
  • Google Generative AI search results are currently not supported on the Galaxy Z Fold5 or Tab S9 series models, but Samsung says support will be added in the future.

Samsung has directed users to check for software updates regularly and has promised future updates to resolve some of these issues. The company has also advised users to keep apps like Google and NavStar updated to the latest versions.

Unfortunately, the troubleshooting tips do not mention anything about dealing with excessive battery drain following the One UI 6.1 update. So users who are experiencing the problem might have to wait for a future update to address the issue, especially if the workarounds aren’t helpful.

For a comprehensive list of troubleshooting tips and detailed instructions, users are encouraged to visit Samsung’s official website or contact their local customer support.

My Samsung S22 Ultra got destroyed by the update. It freeze and get stuck in endless reboot cycles. I went to Samsung Service Center today to get help. Here is what they told me: Since I live in Thailand and got this current phone while in Sweden when my last one got drowned in salt water, the software update they pushed out is not compatible with my hardware (since it is different between countries). They can not fix it since Samsung Thailand can not get access to the correct software version (Sweden/Europe in this case). The other alternative was as I was told to change motherboard but that was also impossible since they could not get the correct version of motherboard to Thailand. So either I get a plane ticket for 1,500 euros to get it fixed in Sweden or I have to replace my, until yesterday, perfectly good 2 year old 22 Ultra, with a new phone. Obviously that would not be a Samsung. Samsung I thought was a global company and should be aware that many of us live global lives across countries. After 20+ years of total Samsung loyalty, that part of my life is now passed.

Just got off the phone with Samsung because of the excessive battery drain. The woman I spoke with tried several things but I will have to see if it helped at all. I have my doubts.

Like everyone else, always on display is too dark now. They can call it optimized if they like, we can't see it. Changing color to white does not improve that.
