After major delays, Samsung finally started rolling out the One UI 7.0 update a few days ago, however, things quickly took a turn for the worse. A nasty bug locked users out of their devices, forcing Samsung to hit pause on the rollout. All this mess has left me wondering if this mess could push back the next big update, One UI 8.0.

The trouble started on April 7, 2025. That’s when One UI 7.0 first hit devices like the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in South Korea. Three days later, it reached the United States and Europe. Users were excited at first. Then the reports rolled in. People couldn’t unlock their phones. For anyone depending on their device for work or daily life, this was a nightmare.

Samsung didn’t waste time reacting. They stopped the update and pulled it from their servers. A spokesperson told CNET that they’re working on a new schedule to give users the best experience. They promised more details soon. So far, though, we’re still in the dark about what exactly went wrong or when it’ll be fixed.

Based on the chatter I’ve seen online on X and Reddit, it’s clear users are upset, especially since these are pricey flagship phones. Some feel betrayed by Samsung. A few are even talking about jumping ship to brands with smoother updates. It stings more because rivals like Google and Xiaomi already rolled out Android 15 without these headaches.

Matter of fact, even the likes of OnePlus and Oppo are sending out the Android 16 beta to select devices in their lineups. Meanwhile, Samsung users are stuck waiting for Android 15 to arrive.

So, what does this mean for One UI 8.0? Building a major update takes time and effort. If Samsung’s team is stuck fixing One UI 7.0, it could slow things down for the next version. That might leave users waiting longer than usual.

There’s a twist, though. Yesterday, the folks over at Smart Prix highlighted that One UI 8.0 is still moving forward. Someone spotted a build for the Z Flip 6 on a test server. A few even downloaded it. This could mean Samsung’s on track after all. But leaks aren’t proof. The One UI 7.0 fiasco might still throw a wrench in the plans.

Here’s the bottom line. The One UI 7.0 rollout has been a disaster. That lockout bug has Samsung scrambling. While leaks suggest One UI 8.0 is in the works, a delay feels possible. There’s talk of restarting the One UI 7.0 rollout, but nothing’s solid yet. Users should hold off on hoping too much until Samsung says more. The company’s promising to sort this out, and with their know-how, they can probably bounce back soon. But they’ll need to act fast and keep users in the loop to keep the trust alive.
