Update 15/10/24 10:45 am (IST): Reddit has finally joined the dark icons party on iOS 18. The latest app update — version 2024.42.0 — has introduced the dark icon for those on iOS 18. Here’s a screenshot I grabbed on my device:

Original article published on October 14, 2024, follows:

It has been weeks since iOS 18 was released, but many app devs have still not added support for the new dark mode icons introduced with the update. Luckily, one popular social media platform has finally caught up — Snapchat. A few days ago, a Snapchatter took to Reddit to highlight the fact that the Snapchat icon now supports the dark mode theme when applied. This comes a few weeks after Instagram rolled out support for iOS 18’s dark mode icons.

What this means is that when you toggle on dark mode and your settings for icons are ‘Dark’ or ‘Automatic’, the Snapchat icon will change to its new dark-themed icon to match other supported icons. I’ve checked my own Snapchat icon and can confirm that it indeed adapts to the dark mode color scheme when applied. Here’s a screenshot for reference.

Just remember that if you’re a Snapchat+ subscriber and have picked a custom app icon, you won’t see this light mode to dark mode shift based on your theme. If you choose the default Snapchat icon, you’ll see the dark mode icon.

What’s funny is that Snapchat still doesn’t support Android’s themed icons, despite it being a thing for much longer. Android users will just have to hope and pray that the developers can clear up some time on their busy schedules to add support for themed icons on Android. But Snapchat isn’t alone! Even Reddit is seemingly ready to roll out support for the new dark icons on iOS 18.

One Redditor shared a screenshot of the beta Reddit app on iOS supporting the dark icon theme on iOS 18. Here’s a screenshot of how that looks:

It’s encouraging to see developers slowly catching up with iOS 18’s new dark mode icons. Hopefully, more will follow suit soon. In the meantime, keep an eye out for updates—and if your favorite app still hasn’t added dark mode icon support, let me know in the comments. Which one are you waiting on the most?
