I recently came across a few reports from Motorola Razr 40 Ultra users who complained about a line appearing on their device’s screen. These reports were mostly on the official Motorola forum. Then I began to dig in more, and I observed that a lot many other users are either also facing or have already faced this issue. Before I dive into the details, let me quickly share with you links to all the reports I found.
Please keep in mind that I have linked to individual reports from same the Reddit threads, so checkout carefully before concluding or terming the links as duplicate.

White, green, or rainbow line problem
Many reports I came across described the issue manifesting as a white colored vertical line that runs through the entire display from top to bottom. Following image (shared by an affected user on Reddit) gives a very clear view of the problem.
In some cases, it was green line though, as shown in the following image:
Most such reports I went through said the line developed on its own, and the owner/user didn’t drop the phone (or didn’t do anything unusual with it). In majority cases, the complainant got a replacement promptly – at least that’s what I gathered during my research.
However, there were cases wherein even the replacements had the same issue. Checkout the following screenshot that shows one such case:
Apart from these ‘vertical line’ cases, many users also confirmed getting a rainbow-ish horizontal line. Check out how one such user explained their issue:
I’ve had the ultra for approximately 4 months, I’ve already had to send it once for repair because my front screen was a lemon. I am now starting to notice two very subtle rainbow colored lines right where the screen is folding, almost where you would expect the phone to crease. It was very minor at first and you could only see if the screen was on a white backdrop, it’s getting more noticeable however and I can see it when the screen is off and I shine a line on it.
Here’s the description of issue from another user:
Same issue here. Just noticed it a couple days ago and wasn’t sure if I just didn’t notice it until before. But it’s definitely there. Very noticeable when it’s displaying white, but even with the screen off I can see the lines at the fold when shining a light on the screen.
Sadly, I couldn’t find an image showing this ‘rainbow lines’ issue. However, I’ll keep an eye and update the article as and when I come across any.
All in all, I personally feel that this issue with the display screen of the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra (which is also called Motorola razr+ OR Motorola razr Plus) isn’t very widespread. I mean, considering that such phones sell in millions at least, the frequency of reports isn’t very high. However, it does feel like a batch or two may have been faulty.
As I said earlier in this article as well, Motorola seems to be doing a decent job in most such cases, as many users say they got the replacement easily. So, if your phone is having this issue, do get in touch with Motorola support – even on the forums (some of which I linked at the top), the company’s reps are very professionally and actively tackling individual cases.
