Update 02/07/24 09:56 am (IST): A Sonos employee has shed some light on the status of the ‘Something went wrong’ error on a Reddit thread. Here’s what they said:

I’ll be honest here. I have no clue about what ports the app uses especially when compared to the older version. I do know that the team is directly looking at those “something went wrong errors” as well as the latency in general from a number of different angles. TLDR: Don’t worry about the ports, this one is on us and we’re working on it.

Update 22/06/24 06:00 pm (IST): It seems Sonos users are once again getting the ‘Something went wrong’ error when trying to load the app or stream music. One user addressed the connectivity issues with Sonos and other IoT devices by creating a dedicated 2.4 GHz network. The user separated their Wi-Fi networks, assigning distinct names to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

They then connected all Sonos speakers, Ring devices, and other Internet of Things (IoT) products exclusively to the 2.4 GHz network, while keeping other devices off this network. This approach resolves problems caused by devices switching between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, as many IoT devices are only compatible with or perform better on 2.4 GHz networks.

Original article published on May 16, 2024 follows:

Sonos is currently investigating reports of a ‘Something went wrong’ error that many users are experiencing when attempting to connect to music streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, and others. The error seems to have surfaced after the company rolled out a redesign update for its app, which also left many users wants to roll back to the previous version.

Users have taken to various online platforms, including Reddit, X, and the Sonos Community forums, to report the frustrating issue. Many have shared screenshots of the error message, which appears when trying to access streaming services through the Sonos app.

In response to the growing number of reports, a Sonos employee acknowledged the issue on Reddit. While no specific timeline for a resolution was provided, the acknowledgment suggests that Sonos is actively investigating the matter. Here’s what the employee said:

Team is definitely aware of this one. There’s a bit of a technical context to this so I’d say tune in to our AMA later today, if possible. (Source)

The ‘Something went wrong’ error has left many Sonos users unable to access their favorite music streaming services, causing significant inconvenience and frustration. Some have even sarcastically suggested renaming the Sonos app to “Maybe Something Went Wrong” due to the frequency of this error.

In addition to the streaming service connection issue, Sonos has also confirmed that the Playbase speaker does not support Apple Music Lossless. This revelation came from a company employee, disappointing users who were hoping to take advantage of the higher-quality audio format on their Sonos devices.

Ok so after replying I dug a little deeper. And of course there’s some fine print. Playbase does not support Apple Music Lossless, along with a few others that we no longer sell or are discontinued. Currently working up a specific list of speakers for our Support agents. Thanks for bringing this up! (Source)

The recent developments have added to the disappointment felt by many users, particularly in the wake of Sonos’ recent AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit. The AMA, which was supposed to be an opportunity for the company to engage with its community and address concerns, turned out to be a letdown for many, with users expressing frustration over the lack of substantial information or announcements.

As Sonos continues to investigate the ‘Something went wrong’ error and work on a fix, users eagerly await a resolution that will restore seamless access to their favorite music streaming services. In the meantime, the company’s handling of these issues and its communication with the community will be under scrutiny, as users seek reassurance and timely updates. I’ll keep track of the situation and post an update if and when there are any notable developments.
