Sony’s latest PlayStation game, Concord, is getting pulled offline just two weeks after its launch. The company announced today that the hero shooter will go dark on September 6, with full refunds being offered to all players who bought it.
Concord hit PS5 and PC on August 23, but it looks like the game failed to find its audience. While Sony hasn’t shared official numbers, estimates put sales at under 25,000 copies. On Steam, it peaked at just 697 players – even lower than last year’s notorious flop The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
“We’ve been listening to your feedback, and we recognize that some aspects of the game and our launch didn’t land the way we intended,” said Ryan Ellis, Concord’s game director, in a blog post. “We’re taking the game offline to explore our options, including ways to better reach our players.”
Anyone who bought Concord on PS5 through the PlayStation Store will get an automatic refund to their original payment method. PC players who grabbed it on Steam or the Epic Games Store will also see refunds in the coming days. If you bought a physical copy, you’ll need to hit up the store you got it from for your money back.
Interestingly, Ellis hinted that this might not be the end for Concord. The team is looking at “options that will better reach our players,” which could mean a pivot to free-to-play. That would make sense, given the game was competing with free alternatives like Overwatch and Valorant.
For now, though, Concord’s going dark. Sales have already stopped, and the servers shut down on Friday. It’s a rough outcome for a game that was in development for eight years. We’ll have to wait and see if Sony can find a way to revive its struggling shooter.
