Update 06/08/24: The issue has now been fully resolved.

Original article follows:

Spotify has acknowledged an issue where some Google Pixel phones are crashing while users try to jam to their favorite tunes. This unusual problem, reported by a growing number of Pixel 6, Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 owners, causes the phones to get stuck in a continuous crash loop, especially when starting a song. While the phone itself doesn’t turn off, the system crashes, displaying a “system UI not responding” message or sometimes reverting to the lock screen.

In a post on its community forums, Spotify has reassured users that they are aware of the problem and are actively working on a solution. The team is encouraging affected users to vote on the issue thread and subscribe for updates.

Although it’s unclear which software versions are affected, some users have found temporary relief by clearing the app data and cache or reverting to an older version of the app, suggesting the Spotify app might be the culprit.

While a fix is hopefully on the horizon, Spotify is keeping users updated on their progress. In the meantime, those experiencing the issue can try uninstalling Spotify and installing an older version or a beta version. Some users have also found that disabling Spotify notifications provides a temporary workaround.

This unusual issue doesn’t seem to affect everyone, as some users haven’t experienced any problems. Additionally, some users have reported similar problems in the past, but not to this extent.

Spotify is also investigating an issue where users of the desktop app are reporting glitched podcast playback speeds.
