Update 06/08/24: This has now been fixed.

Update 01/08/24: Spotify has acknowledged the crashing issue and is working on a fix. Apparently, the issue is limited to free accounts on iOS.

We’ve received reports that iOS users of free accounts are experiencing app crashing when they try to connect their device to their AirPods via Bluetooth.

Original article follows:

Spotify users on iPhones and iPads are currently experiencing a major headache where the music streaming app is crashing when connected to Bluetooth devices. This sudden issue is seemingly tied to the latest iOS update v8.9.60 that arrived in the Apple App Store several hours ago.

From AirPods to fancy headphones, no Bluetooth device seems safe from the Spotify crashing glitch. Users are reporting that the app buckles under the pressure of a wireless connection, abruptly shutting down and leaving them in an awkward silence.

While Spotify hasn’t officially weighed in on the issue, some users have managed to find temporary fixes. Logging out and back into the app appears to be a short-term solution for some, though it’s a frustrating workaround that often doesn’t last. Others have resorted to using Spotify through their web browser, a less-than-ideal but functional alternative.

Spotify support is only beginning to get wind of the crashing issue on X, so users can expect a swift resolution soon. But until then, you’ll have to resort to the suggested workarounds.

If Spotify is constantly crashing for you immediately you hook up your iPhone or iPad with a Bluetooth device, know that you’re not alone in this. Try the logout-login trick, give your phone a good old restart, and keep an eye out for updates.

Here’s hoping the company tunes into the problem soon and restores harmony to our playlists.
