Spotify is feeling the heat after slipping a new “Create” button into its main navigation bar. The tweak put the playlist creation shortcut right next to Home, Search and Your Library. Loyal users say it breaks years of muscle memory and leads to constant mistaps.

On Reddit’s r/truespotify forum, complaints poured in over the weekend. One user, GlacialFrog, summed it up plainly: “What’s the logic of adding the ‘create’ button to this row with the new update? How many times a day are people creating playlists or blends? Certainly not enough to warrant it being alongside the other buttons.” That post has racked up hundreds of upvotes in just 24 hours.

The gripe isn’t just about habit. Many point out that playlist creation is already easily accessed from within the Library tab and via song menus. The root of the uproar is a sense that Spotify shoved a rarely used feature into a prime spot. “i keep accidentally pressing it and its really frustrating,” wrote matcham3lo. “why mess up peoples muscle memory for something not constantly clicked on.” I’ve also got the button on my Spotify app and just like everyone else, I tapped it twice accidentally within a short span of time.

Similarly, there are multiple threads on the subreddit such as the sarcastic titled, “Spotify muscle memory challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)”, post by vulqcii. There’s also a post by whitesdragon which doesn’t beat around the bush and is simply titled, “Please get rid of this button again.”

Some users suspect a deeper motive. Spotify has been experimenting with AI-driven playlists and collaborative features. Some say shoehorning the “Create” button into the main bar looks like a push to drive those newer tools — tools many people say they don’t use or can’t even access yet.

A handful of posters noted they don’t even see the button. That suggests Spotify is rolling out the change in waves, likely testing how users react before a full launch. Still, for those hit with the update, the response has been swift and sharp.

So far, Spotify hasn’t officially commented on the backlash. There’s no word on whether the company plans to let users customize their navigation row or revert to the old layout. Meanwhile, frustrated listeners are left tapping the wrong button on their commute, during workouts or when they just want to dive back into a favorite playlist.
