Telegram has started 2025 with a major update aimed at solving two big problems. The app wants to reduce scams and stop the spread of misinformation. Its new features include account verification by third-party organizations, better search filters, and even a way to turn gifts into NFTs.

The highlight of the update is the account verification system. Telegram is letting verified external groups, like regulators or industry bodies, confirm user accounts. Verified accounts will not get the usual blue checkmark. Instead, they will display a unique logo that shows which organization approved them.

Telegram says this new system will make the platform safer by building trust. To get verified, individuals or groups need to apply and pass checks from one of these trusted organizations. Businesses can also link their verified accounts to their logo, making it clear who they are. This approach is similar to what X does with organizational accounts, but Telegram wants to take it further.

The update also brings new search tools. Users can now filter messages more easily in private chats, group conversations, and channels. This makes finding information faster while also helping users avoid spam or misleading content.

On the lighter side, Telegram is expanding its crypto features. You can now upgrade gifts into NFTs with custom designs. These collectible gifts can be traded on various platforms, using Telegram’s blockchain technology. While this may seem like just a fun addition, it fits with Telegram’s focus on creative ways to use crypto.

This update shows Telegram is serious about tackling its reputation issues. The platform has often been criticized for being a hotbed of scams and false information. Whether these changes will work remains to be seen, but it is clear Telegram is trying to create a safer space for online communication.
