TikTok’s ‘For You’ page isn’t the same for some users since the U.S. ban, and people are noticing. Complaints are flooding platforms like Reddit, with users saying their carefully tuned FYPs have gone haywire. From music lovers to niche enthusiasts, many claim their feeds feel like they’ve hit a hard reset. One user said their FYP went from “perfect” to a “pile of garbage” overnight.

The short-lived U.S. ban, which lasted about 12 hours, might be behind this mess. Some believe shutting down TikTok’s servers during the ban scrambled cached data. A Reddit user speculated the surge of users when TikTok came back online might have overwhelmed the servers. Others think something deeper changed. A theory floating around is that TikTok’s owners could’ve stripped key parts of the algorithm in preparation for a potential sale to a U.S. company. Of course, there’s no hard proof of this, just frustrated users swapping ideas online.

This all comes after former President Trump pledged to bring TikTok back. The platform had to comply with strict conditions, including potential sale talks. It’s a chaotic situation, as seen in related controversies, like the TikTok livestream issue with Streamlabs, which was acknowledged recently.

Not everyone is experiencing issues, though. Some say their FYPs are fine, so it’s unclear what exactly is causing the FYP to go haywire for some. People are asking if the problem is tied to specific regions, user habits, or sheer bad luck. Suggestions for fixing the FYP range from uninstalling and reinstalling TikTok to re-engaging with old liked videos. But these solutions seem to be a hit or a miss. Some do mention that the algorithm fixed itself after a few hours. So you could simply try waiting it out to see for any improvement.

For those with messed-up feeds, the shift feels personal. TikTok’s magic has always been its ability to tailor content so precisely it feels like the app knows you. When that bond breaks, it’s no surprise users feel disconnected. One person even joked about switching to Instagram, only to admit they despise Reels just as much. Others suggest deleting TikTok altogether, but for many, that’s not a real option.

Whether the issues are temporary or a sign of a bigger change, users are eager for answers. For now, scrolling through TikTok feels more like a chore than the addictive escape it once was, at least for some.
