TikTok’s attempt at offering users some quality content via a dedicated STEM feed seems to have had a rocky start. The feature that supposedly started rolling out to users in the US last year, is only now rolling out to a wider audience, according to recent chatter online.
You’ll see the STEM feed alongside the familiar “For You” and “Following” feeds at the top of the app. Swiping over to it brings up videos focused on educational topics. TikTok originally rolled out this feature in the US as part of a limited test but seems to have expanded access gradually over time. Now, many users are only just beginning to see it, and reactions are mixed, with some excited and others confused about why they’re seeing it now.
“Why is there a STEM fyp on TikTok,” one user asked on X. Another wrote, “I finally have the STEM tab on my TikTok! I’m so excited!” Others poked fun at the update, with one user joking, “STEM tab on TikTok really for the educated.”
This wider US rollout follows the feature’s recent expansion to other regions. Canada got access earlier this month, while European countries started seeing the STEM tab in April, beginning with the UK and Ireland.
To ensure quality control, TikTok partnered with Common Sense Networks and Poynter to review all STEM content. Common Sense checks if videos are appropriate for the feed, while Poynter verifies the accuracy of information. Only content that passes both checks makes it to the STEM feed.
Users seem pretty excited about the addition, with many taking to social media to share their discoveries. “The nerdy me is excitedddd,” wrote one user, while another called it a “game changer.”
To find the new STEM feed, users can simply tap ‘STEM’ at the top of their screen or swipe left from their main feed. For users under 18, the feed will automatically be enabled, though older users can choose to disable it if they prefer.

While the feature technically launched last year, it seems TikTok has been expanding it slowly. The recent influx of posts from US users suggests that the rollout may now be in full swing.
Whether people are ready to dive into STEM or just curious about the new tab, it looks like the feature is here to stay. If you haven’t seen the STEM feed yet, you might just find it waiting for you the next time you open TikTok.
