uBlock Origin briefly vanished from the Microsoft Edge Add‑ons store on Monday after an upload error swapped the full extension with uBlock Origin Lite. Maintainer Raymond Hill acknowledged the mistake on GitHub, saying he accidentally uploaded uBO Lite using uBO’s extension ID while reworking the publishing script. The correct build is now live again in the Edge store as version 2025.825.0, which is the same code as uBO 1.65.0.

The issue was first flagged on GitHub by ‘electrifying,’ who highlighted the steps to reproduce:

The mix‑up created two Lite listings and, for many Edge users, auto‑replaced uBlock Origin with Lite. That swap broke settings for some installs. Reports included lost custom filters and per‑site filtering modes that would not stick after a browser restart. Hill also flagged a regression in the affected Lite build that compounded the problem, then shipped a follow‑up fix.

Rolling back was not straightforward. Hill said the Edge dashboard would not allow a simple revert and rejected an attempt to republish the older MV2 build over a newer MV3 submission. The team unlisted the extension to stop further impact, contacted Microsoft’s extension support, and then republished the correct uBO build with a higher, date‑style version number so the store would accept it. He thanked Microsoft staff for helping resolve the situation and said Edge store versions of uBO will use adjusted numbering going forward.

What does this mean for you? Well, if Edge swapped your uBlock Origin for Lite, the store listing should now deliver the proper extension again. After updating, confirm the Edge version reads 2025.825.0. That version is functionally identical to uBO 1.65.0.

If your settings were reset, open uBO, go to Dashboard, then Settings, and use Restore to import a backup if you have one. If no backup exists, re‑add any custom rules in My filters and revisit sites where you changed the filtering mode so those choices are saved again.

Affected users took to Reddit with a mix of frustration and support, noting that mistakes happen and praising the quick turnaround. Hill owned the error, said he would revisit the publishing scripts to prevent a repeat, and indicated that the next stable uBO release for Edge should arrive soon under the new numbering scheme.
