It appears something is up with WhatsApp for a number of users. Over the past few days, I’ve spotted multiple reports across platforms like Reddit and X, with people saying they’ve been hit with account bans or are having trouble logging in. It’s causing quite a bit of frustration for those affected.

Some users are seeing a message that says, “This account can no longer use WhatsApp.” Others are running into issues when trying to verify their phone numbers for a new account, getting errors like “Login not available right now.” This seems to be preventing them from even getting started with the app.

Here are some user shared screenshots of the errors they’re seeing:

One user, Quiet_Series_5816 on Reddit, shared their experience after their account was banned. They mentioned they barely used the app, mostly just for voice and video calls with their dad. They were understandably confused and looking for answers on how long a ban might last. Another user, qarmand, reported a similar ban message citing “spam,” but thankfully had their account restored after about 10 hours following a review request.

The lack of clear communication from WhatsApp seems to be a major pain point. Several users mentioned receiving automated replies when trying to contact support, often being directed back to the app itself for help, which isn’t possible if they’re banned or can’t log in. This creates a frustrating loop for people trying to resolve their issues.

That said, there were similar complaints about a ban wave late last year on WhatsApp. However, in that situation, most reports were users with older iPhones and a couple of months later there was yet another round of random bans.

There’s also talk among users about possible reasons for these problems. Some speculate it could be related to using VPNs, certain Wi-Fi connections, or even issues with virtual phone numbers. Others wonder if it’s just a bug on WhatsApp’s end. One user on Reddit suggested trying a clean install or downloading the app directly from the WhatsApp website rather than the app store. For some, switching SIM cards to a different phone to activate the account reportedly helped bypass the login issue.

While some users have reported their accounts being restored after a few hours or a day, others are still waiting and struggling to get a clear explanation or resolution from WhatsApp support. It leaves many feeling helpless, especially those who rely on the app for personal or even business communication. The situation remains ongoing, and it’s clear that those impacted are hoping for a swift fix and better support from the platform.
