Users across the social media platform X are reporting a frustrating and confusing issue. Many are finding their posts unexpectedly labeled with a warning: “Visibility limited: this Post may violate X’s rules against Hateful Conduct.” This is happening even for seemingly harmless content.

The problem appears to have surfaced quite suddenly, affecting users over the past several hours. People took to platforms like Reddit to share their experiences and seek answers. One user, mandafromtexas, noted, “all I tweeted was literally ‘testing testing’ and it got flagged lol this started a few hours ago.” They added that attempting to learn more about the violation resulted in an error message.

This wasn’t an isolated incident. Numerous others chimed in with similar stories. Posts containing simple words like “huh” or even just tagging other users are being caught by the system. User Lunchb0xx87 commented, “Yeah what’s going on it started happening to me a few hours ago and it’s basic stuff being labeled too”. The randomness of the flagging is leading to speculation about the cause.

Some users initially wondered if they were being targeted, particularly those who had posted content critical of the platform or its owner, Elon Musk. However, the sheer volume and the mundane nature of many flagged posts suggest that it’s likely a bug. It seems X’s automated content moderation system or an algorithm might be misinterpreting keywords.

X’s own AI assistant, Grok, acknowledged that such errors can happen. When asked about a post like “Skittles are not very good for you” being flagged, Grok suggested it could be an algorithmic misinterpretation or a mistaken user report. It also noted that flagging simple test posts might occur due to associated elements, like certain country flags linked to sensitive geopolitical issues, triggering automated systems.

For now, users are left confused and annoyed. The unexpected labeling limits post visibility, hindering normal interaction on the platform. I suspect this is a glitch that will be sorted out sooner rather than later. In my anecdotal experience, I’ve not run into any issue posting on X today.

That said, feel free to let me know if you’re still running into the same issue in the comments below.

I strongly suspect someone at X needs to be terminated for pushing error-riddled code live without adequately testing it first.

From what I've seen, it appears that if you reply to an account that has that "visibility limited" bug, your account will also start to get the error.
