Mac users have found themselves in a tech-induced bind as the X app has been repeatedly crashing upon launch. The issue comes after the recent transition from Twitter app to using the iPad version of the app on macOS. The frustrating “X quit unexpectedly” message has been a constant source of irritation for Mac users trying to access the app over the past week.

This problem started after the latest update — version 10.62 from October 7 — which has triggered a wave of crashes that prevent the app from even opening. Affected users are openly expressing their confusion and disappointment on social media. But despite the growing reports, the company has yet to officially acknowledge the problem or offer a fix.

What’s particularly confusing is that prior to the update, the app was functioning without issue. Once users installed the update, they were greeted with a crash on launch, with no apparent workaround. Reinstalling the app doesn’t seem to solve the problem either. The error messages being reported range from a generic crash warning to the more technical “SIGNAL 6” error.

What’s worse is that X has yet to make any official statements about the app’s instability. Some have speculated that this could signal the end of the Twitter for Mac app entirely, with users left with no option but to turn to the web version or mobile apps.

In the meantime, Mac users seeking to stay connected to the platform have had to turn to their web browsers to access X, as the web version continues to work smoothly. The mobile apps, too, seem unaffected, meaning that for now, the problem remains confined to the Mac environment.

This isn’t the first time X users have encountered app issues, but the timing and lack of response have raised concerns. For now, X users on Mac are simply hoping that a fix for the crashing issue will be deployed soon, as many rely on the app for day-to-day interactions.
