Elon Musk’s X seems to have dramatically increased the subscription fee for the Premium+ tier from $22 to $40, following the announcement of Grok 3. The new model was highly anticipated for months and was finally revealed in a casual live-stream with Musk himself amid the demo that showcased some of the new features.
Access to this new AI is exclusive to Premium+ subscribers (at least for now), pushing those interested in the cutting-edge technology to consider the new pricing structure. What’s strange is that there was no mention of an increase in price for Premium+ users during the announcement.
However, some eagle-eyed users who attempted to check out the Premium+ subscription price following the launch of Grok 3 noticed that the Premim+ tier shows that it costs $40. Here’s a screenshot shared by one of them:
Keep in mind that this is the subscription fee for users on the web. On mobile, users claim that it costs $50 now to bag the Premium+ tier. Check out the screenshot below for reference:
While there was no mention of a price increase for Premium+, the team did announce a completely new subscription “specifically for Grok” called “SuperGrok.” So some speculate that the pricing might be a mistake and it’s simply showing the price for SuperGrok instead of Premium+. What ever the case, it’s clear that access to advanced AI is going to come with a big price. For instance, Open AI has a $200 fee for access to its latest and greatest o1 reasoning model.
In case you missed it, Grok 3 introduces several advanced features, including superior reasoning capabilities that allow it to handle complex logical tasks with greater accuracy. Users will get the following options: Deep research, Think, and a Big Brain mode. For more details, TechCrunch has a detailed article that highlights the key features announced and demoed today.
In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see if this is an intended change or if it’s a bug. Let us know if you too see the price change on your end.
