Yes, you read that right. That annoying limitation of being logged into your Google account in order to access Gemini has been removed – at least on the web interface. All you have to do now is to go to the URL gemini.google.com and start using the AI assistant. For example, this is what I saw when I visited that website on my mobile:

gemini-on-web

As you can see, the site now greets you with the message: “Meet Gemini, your personal AI assistant”. At the bottom, you have the chat prompt, which means you can start chatting right away, although there’s a prominent ‘Sign in’ button at the top right corner.

So, are there any limitations when you use Gemini on web logged-out vs logged-in? Yes, there are, and I got to know about the details from none other than Gemini itself. The AI assistant told me that the logged-out usage of Gemini doesn’t allow access to all models. And that indeed turned out to be the case, because when I tapped the Gemini 2.0 Flash drop-down menu on the top-left, the following info showed up on the bottom:

As you can see, the default model that you can use in this case is the 2.0 Flash model, which Google markets as good enough for everyday help. Apart from this, certain other features like the ability to save chat history and upload files also aren’t available until you sign-in to your Google account. Following is the complete answer that Gemini gave me:

I liked the way Gemini summed up its answer saying you can at least get the taste of it now without being logged into your Google account.
