YouTube users have recently been experiencing a frustrating issue where the full comments section isn’t loading properly on some videos. Many users have taken to social media platforms like Reddit to express their annoyance, reporting that they can only see a fraction of the total comments, or sometimes none at all.

One Reddit user, HilariousDeerGuy, started a thread on r/youtube, saying,

I can’t see full comments sections on Youtube recently. How to fix? It’ll say there are 48 comments, and then I open it and see one comment with zero replies. This happens with every single video and post I’ve seen recently, and it’s bugging me a lot.

Other users quickly chimed in, confirming they were facing the same problem. User blackholeisawesome commented, “Starting happening to me today as well, it’s so annoying not seeing top comments anymore, or no comments at all!! Hope they get this fixed soon.”

In my testing, I was also able to replicate the bug on certain videos, like this (screenshot shared below). Out of the 49 comments that were mentioned, I could only see two, with no option to scroll further down. However, the comments worked fine for a majority of videos that I checked. But your mileage may vary.

The issue seems to affect the way YouTube sorts comments. When sorting by “Top Comments,” many users are finding that comments are missing or hidden. However, switching the sort to “Newest First” seems to temporarily resolve the problem, displaying all comments. This workaround, while helpful, doesn’t address the underlying issue of missing top comments, which many users prefer for their engaging and humorous content.

Some users have speculated about the cause of the bug. JBoss10123 on Reddit suggested, “Seems like YouTube changed something internally that caused almost every comment site-wide to be shadowbanned. If you sort by new instead of top comments, you can still see all of them, which is what happens when comments are shadowbanned.” Another user, Rigby_Wilde, wondered if it was related to YouTube’s recent crackdown on ad blockers. However, MCSInside countered this, stating that the issue was happening to users without ad blockers as well. I second this as well since I’m a Premium subscriber, but I too was able to replicate the bug.

But luckily, YouTube has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix. Maya from TeamYouTube posted an update 17 hours ago, stating:

We’re aware that some of you are experiencing an issue where comments aren’t showing up beneath certain videos, and we’re looking into it now. Here’s what you may be experiencing: Unable to sort comments by “Top Comments.” Missing/Invisible comments: Comments have disappeared or are hidden when “Top Comments” is selected. Comments are only visible when “Newest First” is chosen. Comments simply aren’t showing up. Comments disappeared after being posted. Thanks for your patience, we’ll follow up here when we have an update.

YouTube has not provided an estimated time for the fix, but they are actively investigating the issue. In the meantime, users can use the “Newest First” sorting option to view all comments, though this may not be ideal for those who prefer to see the most popular and relevant comments first.

That said, we’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the article if there’s something to share.
