Are you an audiophile? Is YouTube your go-to platform for videos? Well, if your answer to both the questions is a yes, then there’s good news for you. It has been discovered that YouTube may be working on a new feature that will allow users to adjust audio quality of the videos.
Currently, while YouTube users can tweak the quality of video, the audio quality remains fixed (as set by the uploader of the video).
However, this may change in future, as per a report by Android Authority. The publication says their recent dissection of the YouTube apk revealed a few lines of code that indicate the company is working on a feature which will allow users to choose from different audio bitrates.
The options will include Auto (YouTube chooses what’s the best audio quality based on your Internet), Normal (the default audio quality that you currently get), and High (better, more clear audio output).
As per the report, the code strings the publication uncovered also reveal some limitations, the biggest being this new feature will only be available to those who have YouTube Premium. This means, audiophiles using the free version of YouTube will likely be left high and dry.
Other limitations include the feature may not be available for all videos, and it may also end up consuming more data.
Of course, everything is at a very nascent stage at the moment. Neither YouTube has said anything about such a feature being developed, nor it’s ready enough to be tested by anyone yet. So, we need to keep patience, and also keep in mind that a few lines of code never guarantee that any feature WILL come. So, it’s very much possible that the plans for giving users the ability to adjust audio quality may get shelved.
