It looks like the folks behind YouTube Music have finally figured out how to solve the age-old problem of volume level differences between songs.

The new “Consistent volume” toggle lives in the Playback & restrictions menu. Turn it on, and the app normalizes levels across tracks so one song doesn’t suddenly blast while the next one whispers.

On Reddit’s r/YoutubeMusic, the post sharing the discovery hit over 200 upvotes in a day. The title said it all: “Can’t believe the day has finally arrived!” Plenty of commenters called it long overdue, which is true.

The issue has always come down to the loudness wars. Older tracks get mastered quieter than modern ones, and jumping between albums or playlists meant constant volume tweaks. YouTube Music never fixed it at the app level — until now.

I checked on my own phone after the reports started rolling in. I can also see the feature on the iOS app. But it’s not present on the Android app.

This lines up with what users on the thread are reporting. App versions are all over the place — 9.13.50, 9.14.2, 9.14.51 — and plenty of people still don’t have the toggle. While frustrating, it’s not exactly surprising since a lot of features usually roll out in batches or A/B tests.

That said, Samsung users are flexing that their phones already have an option to do something similar system-wide. Still, having control inside the actual music app matters for everyone else.

It’s unclear how long it’ll take for the feature to go live for everyone, but I’d suggest keeping an eye out for app updates or checking the settings every once in a while to see if YouTube Music overlords finally picked your account.
