YouTube Music is rolling out a very welcome update that brings new swipe gestures to its mobile apps. This change finally introduces a more intuitive way to manage your music. Users can now quickly add songs to their queue or a playlist with a simple swipe.
This new feature allows you to swipe right on a song to add it to your current playback queue. A swipe to the left will bring up the option to add that song to a playlist. This makes organizing your listening experience much faster. It’s a small but significant improvement that many users have been wanting.
I have also received this feature on both my Android and iOS devices. Apparently, YouTube announced the feature back in April, but either the addition went under the radar for most users or it was only available for a handful. Either way, the feature is here now for seemingly everyone. The feature was first highlighted by Redditor, Adriano19000, who shared a couple of screenshots highlighting the newly added gestures.
It’s worth noting that the new gestures are currently available when Browse songs within albums and radio mixes. So you won’t be able to use even the swipe to queue gesture in playlists, which is a bummer. One user even suggested adding it to Search. So let’s hope YouTube considers adding it with a future update.
Another user, matiadks, felt the integration could be better, stating, “They have to add it to the playback queue and to playlists like Spotify, they integrated it in a terrible way for me.” Despite some minor criticisms about its current scope, the overall reception is positive.
Many users are hopeful for more improvements to the app. There’s a general feeling that YouTube Music is steadily getting better. One user, barryisalwayscurious, put it simply: “This app is gonna get better with time.” Features like this new swipe gesture certainly move the app in the right direction. It makes managing your music library more streamlined and user-friendly, a definite win for daily listeners.
