YouTube has begun testing two major new changes that’ll surely make creators on the platform very happy. The two changes in question are related to how creators can handle content that violates community guidelines and how their audiences can support them.

In a move that’ll likely be welcomed by many, YouTube is experimenting with a “fixable violations” system. This feature would allow creators to edit videos that have been age-restricted or removed due to certain Community Guidelines violations.

Instead of facing outright removal or restriction, eligible creators will have the chance to revise their content using an in-Studio video editor. Once the problematic portions are addressed, YouTube’s policy team will review the updated version and potentially lift restrictions or reinstate the video.

But that’s not all that’s cooking in YouTube’s kitchen. The platform is also testing a new way for viewers to support their favorite up-and-coming creators. Enter the “hype” feature – a fresh interaction that goes beyond the traditional like and share buttons. Currently in beta testing in Brazil, Turkey, and Taiwan, this feature allows viewers to “hype” videos published within the last week.

The more hype a video receives, the higher its chances of landing on a new weekly leaderboard. This leaderboard will be showcased as a separate destination under the Explore section, distinct from the trending page. It’s important to note that these “hypes” won’t influence YouTube’s search and discovery algorithms, maintaining a level playing field for content discovery.

For now, the hype feature is limited to a subset of YouTube Partner Program creators with under 500,000 subscribers whose videos adhere to Community Guidelines. So yes, it seems YouTube is trying to balance out its profit margins with all the ads lately along with making tweaks to make the platform more creator friendly, especially to those smaller channels that often go under the radar.

As with any new addition, YouTube will be gathering feedback and making adjustments before potentially rolling out these features more broadly.
