The Discord app is no stranger to crashing issues, and it appears users are once again dealing with one of those. Discord users on desktop are in a bit of a pickle following the most recent update, with crashes happening at all the wrong times. Some can’t even get the app to launch, while others are finding it quits when they’re already inside. The issue is frustrating, hitting both Windows and Mac users, and the web version isn’t entirely in the clear either.

From scrolling through DMs to simply trying to enter a server, the new update seems to have thrown a wrench into the works. Some have even reported crashes when something as small as opening the members list on their server. Whether you’re trying to hang out with friends or get some work done, the frustration is real.

The weird part? It doesn’t crash for everyone in the same way. While some users face crashes right at startup, others report Discord running fine for a few minutes before randomly shutting down. Reinstalling? Not much help. Turning off hardware acceleration? Nope, still crashing.

The good news is that the Discord team is aware of the issue. A staff member chimed in on Reddit, explaining that the problem might have something to do with folder permissions for logs — recent changes may have collided with some user setups. They’re already working on a fix, with updates rolling through the testing channels.

In the meantime, there’s a workaround that seems to be working like a charm: running the Discord app as an administrator. It’s not the most elegant solution — after all, you shouldn’t have to run an app with elevated permissions just to get it to work — but it’s keeping things steady for now. Users who have tried this have managed to dodge the crashes, at least temporarily.

While this is only a stopgap fix, it’s a welcome one for anyone feeling stranded by the crashes. The Discord team is on it, but until they roll out an official patch, running as admin might just be the trick you need to stay connected and crash-free.

So, if you’re one of the unlucky ones stuck in the crash loop, give the admin workaround a shot and keep an eye on future updates.
