Twitch users who use the browser version have noticed a change in the UI in the past few hours. It seems the popular streaming service has rolled out an update that includes a slight bump in font sizes, particularly within chat and some header elements. And not everyone is thrilled about it.
Many users quickly noticed the difference after refreshing their streams or opening new tabs. The chat font, for instance, appears to have increased from 13 pixels to 14 pixels. Other areas like the “Following” and “Browse” buttons also show altered font weights. Some users even pointed out that button corners are now more rounded, indicating a broader UI refresh.
A graphic artist and web developer chimed in on a Reddit thread, confirming the changes. They mentioned that along with the increased font sizes, Twitch also adjusted some font weights and reduced padding in certain areas to try and compensate. They also noted that some third-party extensions, like FFZ, which allow for custom font settings, might be experiencing issues due to these updates.
The reactions have been a mixed bag, but a clear sentiment for reversion is emerging among a segment of the user base. “Yes. Just worsened appearance for no reason,” one user commented, expressing their dissatisfaction. Another user felt the inconsistencies were jarring.
Theres like 10 different font sizes on one stream now for the different elements. it looks really messy
The new look is definitely a talking point. Some users are finding workarounds, like adjusting browser zoom levels or using other extensions like BetterTTV to try and force the old font size back.
On atleast the chat you can bypass the font from 14 to 13 pixels on BTTV, go to the chat>chat settings>set font size> type ”13”>press ok and you now have the old same type of chat
It’s not uncommon for Twitch to freshen up its UI. Last year the platform rolled out one of the most controversial mobile app redesigns. So for now, it looks like Twitch users will be adjusting to a slightly bigger, bolder Browse experience, whether they like it or not. In other related news, Twitch has also expanded its 2K video quality streaming test, but it’s geo-restricted to certain regions. At the same time, they’re also cracking down on users with ad blockers enabled.
