It seems like many Instagram users have suddenly been hit with a reset in the explore section, often called the “For You Page” or FYP. This section is usually tailored to show content based on a user’s past interactions, like posts they’ve liked or accounts they follow. However, numerous people are reporting that their personalized feed has vanished, replaced by generic or completely irrelevant content.

The issue doesn’t seem picky about phones; users on both iOS and Android devices have shared similar experiences online. Even one of our team member’s family members mentioned their Explore feed felt strangely different today, losing its usual personalized touch. For many, the curated mix of hobbies, interests, and entertainment they usually see has been swapped out for something that feels random and unfamiliar.

I seem to be part of the other camp of users who don’t notice any issues with the explore section. That said, I’ve spotted multiple threads on Reddit created in the past few hours highlighting the problem.

One user, Imlemonshark, stated, “My whole feed randomly went from memes to AI/stock images.” This highlights how the algorithm seems to have lost its way for some, failing to serve the content users actually engage with. Another user, meza83, described a similar shift: “It used to give me travel, fitness, cars, finance content, etc… but now it is completely different.”

Trying to retrain the algorithm manually isn’t proving very effective either, according to some reports. People have tried using the “Not Interested” button on the unwanted posts, but the irrelevant content often persists or even reappears shortly after. For users who rely on the Explore page for discovery or just casual scrolling, this sudden change disrupts their experience significantly. User Less_Measurement_236 commented on the recurring nature of problems, saying, “this is the second time ive experienced this dumb reset”.

Last year, we reported a similar issue with TikTok, where users reported that their For You pages were reset. As of now, there hasn’t been an official statement from Instagram or its parent company, Meta, acknowledging the issue or explaining the cause. It’s most likely due to a bug, but we’ll have to wait and see if the algorithm picks up where it left off or if users will have to retrain the algorithm to show them relevant content.
