Update 01/08/24: A new update is rolling out to the Sonos mobile app with a fix for battery drain issue and other improvements.

Original article follows:

Sonos’ latest update for their redesigned mobile app has iOS users reaching for their chargers faster than they can say “low battery.” The new version, 80.05.04 for iOS, has left users questioning their iPhones’ longevity over significant battery drain issues. Meanwhile, Android users with the latest version 80.05.06 seem to have dodged this bullet.

The trouble started last week when Sonos released the update that brought back local music library functionality. Instead, many iOS users reported their battery life plummeting faster than a poorly aimed Flappy Bird. Phones that usually breezed through the day are suddenly gasping for power by lunchtime. The culprit? The Sonos app running wild in the background, sapping battery life like a thirsty vampire.

Amid growing concerns and frustrations, the company’s social media manager chimed in on Reddit, confirming that the team is actively investigating and tracking the issue.

This isn’t the first time Sonos has found itself in the hot seat since rolling out its redesigned app. From buggy interfaces to connectivity issues, the company has been playing whack-a-mole with user complaints. And now, with the latest battery drain debacle, it seems the problems just keep piling up.

The timing of this battery bug couldn’t be worse. Sonos CEO Patrick Spence recently penned an open letter to fans, promising regular, bi-weekly app updates to improve the user experience. While the company is certainly keeping its word on the update frequency, the quality of these updates is now under scrutiny.

Of course, the acknowledgment from Sonos’ social media manager doesn’t exactly soothe the pain of drained iPhone batteries, but it’s a good start. The fact that the comment was made on July 25 and nothing has changed to date doesn’t make it any easier. But with Sonos promising regular updates, a fix for this battery-draining bug should hopefully be on the way.
